Let the Stars Decide.

Meghan steered the Pickup onto the road and accelerated away.
Last night they had watched the meteorite shower rain across the sky and spoke of romance and the future of the universe. Their future.
John and Jeff insisted a weekend away from all distractions, she had to decide.
She loved them both, but marriage! So insistent – John or Jeff.
Which one, they were both solvent, attractive and ideal, which one?
Damn it!
Didn’t they understand the meaning of a free spirit?
She buried her feelings with them beneath the tepee. Soul mates for ever.
Meghan sped away, free at last.

  2. Yikes! That’s an extreme way to make a decision. Thanks for surprising me.

  4. Well, that is one way to decide things. Nicely done.

  5. Such a well crafted story, adding layers hinting at several scenarios, the slow reveal. Great twist at the end. Nicely done.

  6. My goodness… all she had to do was say “no” to both of them… They must have been really insistent…

  8. Dear James,

Wow. That was a rather drastic solution to her dilemma. Wouldn’t a Dear John and a Dear Jeff letter been a kinder solution? Well crafted story in any event.

  9. Not a bad situation to be in with a couple of attractive suitors to choose between, or strike out on her own. Hope she made the right choice!

  10. I think she forgot to ask her heart what it felt.
Deciding based on credentials and attractiveness seems a bit shallow.
They might be better off without her instead of the other way around.
    Good write …

  12. I really enjoyed the entire piece, until the solution. Dark ending to what seemed a difficult but realistic dilemma. That first bit is beautifully written!

  13. Maybe a wise decision… leave John and Jeff to each other 🙂

  14. Oh dear, maybe instead of making her choose between them, John and Jeff should have just let her go. Some people just don’t want to get married lol

  15. What a shocking ending! They definitely shouldn’t have backed her into a corner.

  18. Free at last. Great last line there. The decision is certainly different to their offering!
