Friday Fictioneers – Rochelle Wisoff-Fields
Infatuation
The draft wafted a fragrance of jasmine across the counter: I looked up.
‘Carmen!’
‘Hello Joe, can I have one for the matinee?’ She fumbled in her handbag. ‘Usual seat, please.’
‘One? What’s happened to John?’
‘Please, I am in a hurry.’ She passed over the ten-dollar bill and grabbed the ticket. A silver ring rolled from her purse and fell behind the counter.
‘I’ll get that.’ I held it up as she walked away. ‘Carmen, your ring.’
‘Keep it, throw it. I don’t care.’
She slammed the door as she rushed out.
Yes! Tomorrow, I’ll ask her to dinner.

This week I prepared a basic book trailer for my novel MISSING. It is on my author page, if you would like to watch it..
Amazing!
P.S. What happened to John? A betrayal? Or divorce?

The ring: the engagement is over, perhaps he got tired of the matinee shows. Thanks for reading.

A wiser man might wait. Asking her out now is doomed

Asking her out at any time would be doomed for poor old Joe, Thanks for reading.

A good, well-written story, James. I’m wondering if he should give her a short time to heal but the title tells me he probably won’t. I wish him luck. 🙂 — Suzanne

At last his chance has come! At least in his own head.

Joe isn’t the most sensitive fellow, is he? I could see the silver ring rolling out of her purse and falling behind the counter as I was reading.

Joe is a romantic dreamer.

Hope springs eternal! Joe should wait a bit before asking her out. 🙂

Dear James,
Joe might want to wait before asking her out. He might have better luck just offering her a shoulder for her tears. Nicely done.

Well-written. I tried to watch the video at the link, but it didn’t seem to want to play smoothly. Maybe my internet speed not fast enough?

I have to agree with the other commenters, with that attitude he won’t be successful. Better go slowly.

He’d best wait just a bit. No one wants to be a rebound guy!

Cool your boots, Joe. There’s plenty of time and right now she’s definitely rebounding. PS I watched your book trailer and it’s excellent.

Jilly, thank you. Yes Joe is a bit over excited as you might guess, he’ll be disappointed.

Such a perfect cameo – I really like the way you build a big story from a brief encounter. Good writing.

It seems his opportunity has arisen, but he should take it slow. Take her to dinner and lend an ear. Nicely done! =)

He’d be wise to just be friendly for a few weeks. No way would I jump from one broken relationship right into a new one. Let her heart heal.

I don’t think Joe understands he is out of his depth.

I’m glad to see she’s not letting the break-up spoil her enjoyment of the theatre. I like the opening of this particularly – the ‘fragrance of jasmine’ is a beautiful way to show how she impacts on Joe. I hope he can time his advances just right.

Well, everyone wants a happily ever after. But let’s don’t rush things.

I think Joe is setting himself up for disappointment. At least he’s trying.

He should probably take it a bit slow, she probably is not in the mood for males 😉

Just the opportunity he has been waiting for – I wonder for how many years he has been yearning behind that counter!

As and aside; I pitched my new book at the Indie authors Mtg in Waterstones – Glasgow – on Sunday – never felt so awful in my life..

I had no idea they did such things. Hope it went well. It’s a real struggle to get noticed in a crowded market, Waterstones is such a powerful influencer in getting books noticed.
