I really like this picture as my daughter has a similar pin cushion and there are other items which are recognisable and nostalgic; indeed.

Tinker Tailor Fashion Spy
Caroline was just an ordinary seamstress, sewing to earn a few pennies.
She was under arrest; her background being scrutinised.
No comment was all she mumbled to the fashion police. They beat her.
She was a fool: the pin cushion from Hong Kong and the military buttons pointed to her Intelligence role in the Far East.
That was years ago. She was a civilian now and it was commercial espionage.
She had stolen Valantino’s top secret pattern for the Princess’s ballroom dress. Everyone would love a copy, like Cinderella.
Caroline was tight lipped, as an army veteran her pension meant poverty.
The fashion police are everywhere! 🙂 Great story!

Good for Caroline… may she be fortunate with the loot.

Dear James,
Beaten by the fashion police? That’s seriously unseamly.

Lots of layers here. I had to read it twice to get it all straight. I think that last line is the most telling. We in America make sure our Congressional member retire with a big, fat annual paycheck, while our veterans, especially the disabled ones, have to depend on welfare or the generosity of friends and family. It’s a shame.
I need to clarify. It is the people in Congress who vote themselves that big fat retirement pay.

Yes, politicians are so liberal with public money, always dipping into the pot of the hard working creators. Thanks for reading.

Very creative take on the prompt. You created a many layered story that could go in many different directions. What will happen to Caroline?

She escapes. Changes her name and sets up her own fashion design business selling ballroom and wedding dress.

I’ve counted my self as a member of the fashion police, particularly wondering round Coalville, there’s so awful jackets there! Good stuff

Clever take, and an even cleverer title. Well done.

Once a spy, always a spy. The last line is particularly powerful; how sad and unjust that an army veteran can barely manage to make ends meet.

Actual profession of Caroline was espionage. She could not give it up whether she was in service or as a civilian.
