Proclaimers – Let’s Get Married.
Young Ones Get Married
“Remember our nights in the Barrowland Ballroom. It was wild jigging and dancing. We went mad when Lulu sang ‘Shout’ and then there was ‘Let’s Twist Again.”.’
‘Oh Jack, you were lapping around me like a puppy.’
‘Ten times asking; are you dancing? You said not on your nelly.’
‘Bugger off, I said.’
‘We were wild, rocking around the floor, – everyone watching.’
‘What went wrong, Jack? Look at us.’
‘Fifty years, and they’re still watching.’
‘Aye, and I am still waiting. Are you asking?
‘Oh Maggie, enjoy the moment.’
‘Jack! It’s our tune “Let’s Get Married”.’
‘Yes, I know.’
How sweet! 🙂

Aww this is nice, a romance of the ages. Sounds like they’ve outlasted everyone. Perhaps it is their time at last

Fond memories – not as far back as Lulu, but I went to a few nights at Barrowlands in the 90s and 00s. Hopefully it will survive the current shutdown.

I love the good feelings and fond memories in your story. An, it’s not cheesy at all. It’s funny when one of us writes a feel-good story, we sometimes think it comes off that way.

Many thanks Alicia, I think I needed a feel good story after my story last week with a creepy dating theme. Thanks for your comment.

Dear James,
I guess it shows that it’s never too late. Nicely done. (Not cheesy 😉 )

Per your comments – what’s wrong with a little cheese? Though this is rather sweet… Never too young for love!

Thanks Dale, i know a couple who have never married and have five children. They have been together for over forty years. they believe their bond is stronger than a state institution. It is a choice that suits them.

Lots of those here in Quebec. Hell my husband and I married only 7 years and three children later!

I liked the voices you used for the couple, especially Maggie’s ‘Bugger off, I said.’ And it’s not a bit cheesy. It’s mature!

Great, James. I’ve been told to bugger off in many a dance hall. I can relate but it all comes good in the end. Nicely told.

Old people are so sweet. Time changes some things and others stay the same.
