Rochelle Wisoff-Fields Friday Fictioneers
This week’s picture reminds me of Ernest Hemingway’s six-word story;
“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”
Every Child Deserves a Mother
Damn, how Malcolm preferred the office than coming home. He kicked a box out of his way. The City garbage strike was a health hazard.
Then he saw it. Hell! Mary has flipped. Another of her tantrums since the IVF failed, and for the last time. Dr Nolan said it was pointless.
Malcolm suggested adopting a baby girl. No, she wouldn’t listen to him.
In the flat, the aroma of baking eased his tension as Mary pecked his cheek in a gregarious mood.
‘Oh, Malcolm. I’ve decided to adopt.’
‘Then, why throw out the chair?’
‘Because Charlie is three already.’
All’s well that ends well… kinda/sorta. That should be a joint decision… the I decided to adopt chills me a bit. Hopefully, it will be a joint thing in the end.

Yes, I agree. Mary is so wound up she forgets she has a husband and tends to ignore him.

Now there’s a cheery ending! After the Hemingway quip, I was bracing myself for quite the opposite 🙂

IVF is a difficult thing to go through. I’m pleased she changed her mind and decided to adopt a baby. Have a great weekend … Be Safe

IVF can make one very irrational and hormonal. Hopefully her decision to adopt is not a whim. A true and somewhat sad slice of life, James.

A happy ending after all!

But is Malcolm happy?

based on her condition, deciding to adopt could be momentary. she’ll likely change her mind tomorrow.

Possible, and then it’s poor Charlie.

Oh a lovely end. Hopefully he’s on board with her decision. The emotional swings seem very real though, with both.

Dear James,
It sounds like her mind’s made up, but what about Malcom? Well done.

Love the tile. And the story even though he wanting a girl and she deciding to adopt a boy might be cause for tension.

Does she ever listen?

Great twist. I hope her hormones settle. Tough time for them both.
