Does Money Buy Love?

With women, I am a sucker.
I bought Doreen a penthouse and a Porsche Cabriolet. She fell for a Gigolo.

Marylin was lovely with a taste for blue diamonds.

She gave them to a boyfriend in Amsterdam.

I have everything, but finding love has left me hollow and lonely.

Strolling with Carolyn along the jetty was bliss.

‘My colour is pink,’ she said. ‘Look, it’s for sale.’

A disappointed shudder trembled through my body, and I let go of her hand.

She pointed. ‘That’s what I need to buy, a basket for my bicycle.’

I kissed her hand. ‘You should.’

  2. Dear James,

It seems that she’s the right one. Too bad he wasted all that time, money and effort trying to buy a partner.

    Shalom,

  4. She’s a keeper… Unless she is toying with him, a false sense of security.

  6. Either he picked a winner, or she’s a savvy gal who recognized his shift away when she mentioned, he thought, the boat. Would be interesting to see how/if this relationship succeeds.

  9. Sounds like a basket case to me. Still, much better than a gold digger.

  17. She has the right attitude. He’s found the one he will be able to lavish his love on (and probably more) because she is not in it for that!
    Good one, James.

  18. Great story – I especially like the ways in which his previous women gave away his gifts. Seems like the penny has finally dropped ?

  19. Carolyn is certainly a keeper, the kind of person who seems happy with little and not expecting to much. Sweet story, James!

  20. I loved the ending in this short story James. I met my wife when my car had rusted fenders but she was more interested in me. I saw in her a keeper and we married within 3 months, that was 40 years ago. I hope you are having a great week. – David
