We all love Grandma

My daughter Sally-Anne married Billy-Joe, and for years they have lived at home with us. It’s time; my wife, Elly, agreed. Since Sally and Billy are expecting twins, they should have their own place. It would stop all the fighting and arguments about space and who owns the washing machine.

We bought one of them prefabricated homes and put it down by the creek, not too far as Elly wants to be near the grandchildren. But just far enough to keep us all apart; sweet and happy.

The trouble is, Sally won’t agree about who gets to look after Grandma.

  1. Poor grandma. They all need to consider that someday THEY will be grandma!

  2. Maybe get another one of them pre-fab homes and put it at the halfway point and share duties? Good story that has generated a lot of discussion.

  3. …which just goes to show that if a person wants to find an argument, they’ll find one! I really like this story of family dynamics.

  4. Hmmm. I’d say Grandad contracted to look after Grandma when he said those ole wedding vows…I hope they enjoy being grandparents!

  7. I feel sorry for the grandma. Maybe a granny flat will do, and Elly and Sally could take turns. Hmm. Nice slice of life, James.

  8. James,
There’s always something to argue over! Still, in these days of extended families living hundreds of miles and oceans away from one another, Grandma has it good and so do the rest of them!

  9. Either way, it’s nice to see people want to take care of grandma instead of sticking her in a home.

  12. Hm, tough question (great story). I think Elly should do it. After all, she wants to be looked after by her daughter, when her time comes, too.

  13. Dear James,

This doesn’t bode well for Granny. Good one.

  14. I’m sorry, with the twins and all, I think Elly-Mae needs to take care of Grandma… I mean, she just sits in her rocker on the front porch, knitting, most of the time, at least until you turn your back, and then she’s off her rocker…
