James Wilson. (Born 1850).
He is a retired Major and Veterinary Doctor. He served for some of his military service in Indian, during which his wife and daughter died of malaria. They are buried in the Tehkal cemetery in Peshwar. He immediately volunteered to serve in Egypt, where he rescued the dying Holmes from the battlefield, an intervention that saved Holmes’ life.
Years later, he returned to Glasgow and when searching for accommodation found a room available at 221 Victoria Circus, and was delighted to discover his new landlord was Russell Holmes. He works part time as a consultant for the Glasgow Transport Cooperation providing Veterinary Services and advice about horse welfare and management.
