The Trappist Zone
George, the transporter is landing.
Will I miss this place?
We did our best George, we must start over, a new beginning.
I feel a failure; all the destruction and greed.
Oh, George, remember the woolly mammoth.
Downhill since then. Where did we go wrong?
We gave them dreams and intelligence. Our experiment had potential.
Yes, we did very well, but should we just abandon them?
It’s too late, they are out of control; a self-consuming infestation.
George, the bag?
Yes, all human goodness, fully packed.
Think of our next creation; “Mensch”.
A perfect ideal; the Trappist Zone is ready.

I wonder if they’ll have better luck with their next project, around the dim red dwarf Trappist 1? I confess that calling the new project ‘mensch’ carries some pretty ominous overtones for me. Good imaginative response to the prompt, James.

Hi Penny, I did ponder about ‘Mensch’ and decided on the meaning of ‘a person of integrity and honour’.

Just looked it up, common usage reads thus:
Common Usage: “Her wrist action was intoxicating, even the most disciplined mensch would be susceptible to her skillful handjob techniques that she employed before burning the house down in a fit of misguided rage.”
I’m seeing my folks this weekend, maybe I won’t use this sentence!!

Love the bag of mankinds good qualities. Sounds like Earth is a bit chaotic with self consuming mammoths right now if i understood you right. I wasnt aware of the meaning of Trappist, so all i could think of were monks! Very exciting tale!

The Trappist Zone is a system in the universe where apparently there are planets in the ‘habitable’ position, that is they are capable of maintaining water.

James, a well-written and intellectually stimulating piece. There is an element of Nazi experimentation here, although at the same time, when you see how destructive humans can be, a bit of engineering along those lines to make people treat each other and the plant better, wouldn’t go astray but where do you draw the line? Even those with good intentions, get corrupted by power.
Much to think about.
